FAQs

PD MED is a large national research study of treatments for Parkinson’s disease.

When do I re-randomise a patient?

When a patient suffers dyskinesia or motor fluctuations which are no longer controlled with up titration of levodopa and you wish to add another medication to help control these symptoms. If patients had been randomised to either the DA or MAOBI arm, the first adjuvant therapy to add is levodopa then patients can be re-randomised for further adjuvant therapy. If they have not been prescribed levodopa, they are not eligible for re-randomisation.

What do I do when a patient’s diagnosis changes?

Please collect data on as before when a patient’s diagnosis changes, this is best explained to the patient by either the clinician/nurse to help return rates of patient forms.

Which drugs should I record on Follow Up forms?

Only include drugs that are related to Parkinson’s Disease, anti-psychotics and anti-depressants.

When do I complete Follow Up forms for a patient?

We will send you forms for your patients when they are due, this will be annually at the date of randomisation, please try ensure patients appointments are arranged to be roughly around the date of randomisation.

What do I do if I’m interested in taking part?

The study is closing to recruitment at the end of the year and unfortunately it is no longer possible to open new sites for PD MED. However if you are interested in taking part in our latest study PD REHAB, let us know! We will send you a short Practical Arrangements Form, once completed (including signed CV’s) and sent back to us we will deal with all the R&D and ethics applications.
